Obviously step class is a major cardiovascular workout providing all the benefits of a high intensity cardio workout without putting stress on your joints, improving overall fitness by building strength, reducing fat and boosting cardio health, burning calories, making it an ideal way to maintain your target weight.
But you may be asking "‘why weights too?”
There are many reasons and some of my favourites are, everyday life is made easier by lifting light weights. Completing multiple repetitions really cranks up our muscular endurance, this is the bodies ability to work for a prolonged period of time, which means - the better your endurance- the less tired you will be and the longer you will last, whether you are doing the chores like cutting grass or having fun in sports for playing with your children. you can also work on your muscular endurance by focusing on repeated strength movements. An extended range of motion means increased flexibility and we will work on stability too.
Increase in musculoskeletal health especially for women as we age is so important. Weight bearing excerise can be a great way to help with the reduction of bone loss by stimulating bone growth, size and strength.
However, you need to have healthy joints to begin with for this benefit.
